Accessibility funding secured for South Bank and Bankside
The Greater London Authority has secured funding to improve accessibility along South Bank and Bankside - from Hungerford Bridge to Tower Bridge and including access to the piers, bridges and main railway stations. This will be delivered in advance of the Games, and once complete it will deliver a vastly improved route that is accessible to all:
- Witherford Watson Mann Architects appointed to undertake detailed design work
- Proposals put forward include more seating, resurfacing of pathways and improving adjacent cycle routes
- Consultation with landowners and other stakeholders ongoing
- Capital works to start autumn 2011
- Completion by 31 March 2012
Accessibility website www.inclusivelondon.com launched
London’s accessibility website was launched on 11 March 2011 with the objective to publish new information on accessible facilities through web-based information and applications. The site provides details of many thousands of accessible buildings in London, from hotels to shops and restaurants to visitor attractions. If you wish to add information on your organisation, you can do so by logging on to the website and following the instructions.

“I find Better Bankside a marvellous
resource. They are always looking
for ways to enliven and improve
the area. It’s particularly helpful
to know that their cleaning team
is just a phone call away, and that
they will take on those ‘hard to
reach’ problems. That’s why we support Better Bankside.”
