The 2012 Games will place substantial pressure on London’s transport capacity. A typical August weekday in London contains 3.4 million rail and Tube users and 5.8 million bus users. In August 2012, the Games’s busiest days are expected to add an additional 855,000 users who are making event-related trips. Furthermore, 80% of spectators attending London-based events will travel by rail. Given that 10.8 million tickets are on sale for the Games, it is anticipated that 20 million extra trips will be made within London during the Olympic period.
London Bridge, Bankside and the South Bank rail and Tube stations are expected to be exceptionally busy.
