Homelessness in Bankside
Better Bankside tries to connect businesses
and employees with the local agencies that provide services for homeless people. Leading homeless charity St Mungo’s says “giving
money, food or clothing to people you see sleeping rough is a generous and
compassionate gesture but can sustain people on the streets”. Organisations
like St Mungo’s, the Robes Project, Gateway Foyer, The Manna Centre and Manor Place offer real change by
supporting people off the streets for good.
We work with these local organisations through our Together at Christmas gift campaign, but ideally they need our
support all year round. You can get involved by:
-
Donating new or second hand
clothing, toiletries or food. Everyday items like men’s jeans, trainers,
underwear, socks, simple day-to-day toiletries and staple foodstuffs are
usually in high demand. See organisations' websites for more information
-
Volunteering your time. Look
out for opportunities in our Vbrief and volunteering pages.
-
Fundraising. Need a team
project? Looking for a company charity? Why not think about raising money for a homeless
agency working in our local community.
-
Reporting a rough sleeper. The
more eyes there are looking out for people sleeping rough the more likely they
are to get help off the streets. Report a rough sleeper to St Mungo’s.
If someone sleeping rough is causing
nuisance our wardens can help.
