Every year Better Bankside aims to bring a little festive cheer to people who may otherwise not experience the joy of receiving presents at Christmas. This year, we are working with more local organisations than ever before to support the homeless, older people and children with special needs: Broadway; Lucy Brown House; Hopton’s Charity; Age Concern Southwark; The Manna Centre, The Robes Project, St Mungos and Beormund Special School.
While you’re doing your Christmas shopping, why not get an extra gift? For many people, it could be the only gift they receive this Christmas.
You can donate any of the following items at a designated collection point before 14th December. We will then sort them, wrap them and distribute them.
Food: non-perishable, luxury treats
Toiletries: attractive packaging in a range of sizes
Clothes: new please, not worn
Children’s items (particularly for boys): toiletries, clothing, toys, sweets, art and craft materials
Collection points:
Better Bankside: Bankside Community Space, 18 Great Guildford Street, SE1 0SY
Etc Venues: Prospero House, 241 Borough High Street, SE1 1GB
Forster: 49 Southwark Street, SE1 1RU
Glass & Glazing Federation: 44-48 Borough High Street, SE1 1XW
Novotel London City South: 53-61 Southwark Bridge Rd, SE1 6NP

Christmas brings with it a wealth of other volunteering opportunities, not least the opportunity to get in the festive spirit by wrapping the 800-1000 gifts Better Bankside receives from its appeal! There’s also the chance to buy a Christmas card designed by a local primary school child as part of an annual competition; and an open invitation to a special ‘St Nicholas Eve’ service at Southwark Cathedral.
