Mint Street Family Music Festival
People of all ages united at Mint Street Music Festival on Saturday 12 July as part of the national music celebration, Our Big Gig.
Organised by the Mint Street Music Festival team in association with Bankside Open Spaces Trust, the event held at Mint Street Park was one of over 180 events taking place across England and Scotland this weekend bringing communities together to celebrate local music.
With people from across the community in attendance, the event showcased music from six bands, four solo performers, two choirs and a dance troupe.
Commenting on a very successful day, Event Organiser Hannah Metcalfe said: “I was delighted with the fantastic quality of the music that our talented performers brought to Mint Street Park for this event. It’s been truly inspiring. A big thank you also to our volunteers, to Bankside Open Spaces Trust and to the local businesses that have supported this event”.
Commenting via Twitter, Open Streets London described the festival as a “mellow, fun, music filled afternoon” and called for it to be repeated.
Anna Mellon of Boppin’ Bunnies described it as “a lovely event”, commenting “We had loads of families joining in!”
Congratulating the headline band, singer Andriah posted “Had a great performance today at Mint Street Music Festival in Borough… had such a laugh with my nearest and friends. Well done to my boys, Peter Waterman's band "JamJar" who killed their performance!”
Katharine Lane, Director at Superact said:
“It’s been another fantastic weekend for Our Big Gig with thousands upon thousands of people turning out from St Ives to Shetland to support local music in their area.
“As an Inspired by 2012 project, it was great to see the Olympic spirit on display as volunteers and community organisations teamed up to make these brilliant gigs happen”
