Meet our new Street Geniuses
The Corporate Social Responsibility programme at Better Bankside is starting work on a very exciting new work experience project. We’re participating in the SOWF Street Genius project, a project which offers creative placements for young people at some of London’s most exciting arts organisations. The project aims to put local young people at the heart of the South Bank and Bankside Cultural Quarter as creators, producers and advocates.

Better Bankside, whilst not an arts organisation, is giving two young people the opportunitiy to be creators, producers and advocates within Better Bankside and in turn providing them with real, practical and tangible careers advice and work experience.

Ernest and Kerry started work last week and Better Bankside has tasked them with putting on an ‘after party’ for all the other street genius projects that will be showcasing their work during the Inspire/Open Up Festival 26-28 September. In order to help them do this, they will be recruiting a wider group of young people from the local area and providing training sessions, in conjunction with local businesses to equip the young people with the event management skills they will need. The young people will be in charge of all aspects of the event, from room dressing to catering to entertainment.

Here, Kerry speaks about the project: 'My name is Kerry I'm 19 years old, and have just started on a project called Street Genius. It involves me taking part in a number of activities such as, putting together workshops for young people to keep them busy and active over the summer, we are also going to be putting together a final after party, which I am looking forward to starting planning, and to come up with ideas of what kind of theme we want to do. It’s an exciting project and I'm looking forward to taking part in it all.'
