Events Academy

The 2011 Events Academy project was bigger and better than ever!
Over 120 Bankside employees turned out at the lovely Prospero House to a networking evening organised by the ‘Great Eight’. The ‘Great Eight’ 16-21 year olds were recruited from SE1 youth clubs, schools and forums, and spent their summer getting a real-life taste of the working world. They received hours of training in all aspects of event management and the world of business, generously donated by local businesses keen to invest in tomorrow’s generation.
Two of the 'Great Eight' were Events Academy 2010 alumni who mentored their peers through the process. They have established a practice of offering ongoing support to each other after the summer's activities and 2011's students have all been offered work experience by Bankside businesses including Land Securities and Fourth Day.
You can follow the inspirational story of the Great Eight in this short film, which has been shortlisted in a competition to be shown on the Olympic screens in 2012!
The Events Academy aims to help raise the aspirations and ambitions of young people in SE1 by offering them the opportunity to learn what it takes to put on a great event.

“I find Better Bankside a marvellous
resource. They are always looking
for ways to enliven and improve
the area. It’s particularly helpful
to know that their cleaning team
is just a phone call away, and that
they will take on those ‘hard to
reach’ problems. That’s why we support Better Bankside.”
