London Design Festival celebrates and promotes London as the design capital of the world and Bankside will once again be an official design district this September.
Putting south London design on the map, Bankside Design District runs east to west along the Thames from Borough Market to Oxo Tower Wharf. Home to galleries, design studios, creative agencies and architects’ practices, this year’s programme celebrates Bankside’s creative diversity and features a strong theme of typography that won’t disappoint font fans and type geeks.
Find out more about Bankside Design District here and keep an eye out for special activity on Wednesday 19 September for the Bankside Late.
The Flags of Bankside
Better Bankside will present an intensely colourful display of Bankside's creativity through an installation of 60 flags designed by artists and designers that celebrates the area's independent spirit. The full complement of flags will be flown at Borough Market in Jubilee Place throughout LDF. Following the festival, Bankside Design District will display the flags at various locations and host an auction to help support three local community projects.
Type Tasting has created two exclusive workshops that will immerse you in a multisensory tasting through time, type and libation. Choose from ‘Wine, Type & Culture’ with Laithwaite’s Wine The Arch store or ‘Gin & Type Tasting’ at Flat Iron Square - tickets £40. Also lookout for the pop-up Typography Lab appearing at various locations throughout the festival week (15 - 23 September).
Better Letters will host a sign painting school with US legend Mike Meyer, in Borough Market. They will also screen three short biopics, When Better Letters met… at Jerwood Space for the Bankside Late which profiles retired signwriters and their lives in the trade.
