The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is due to come into force on 25 May 2018, will have a major impact on the way organisations manage personal data including web privacy policies, customers’ details and employee records. The maximum penalty for businesses who do not comply is £20 million or 4% of worldwide turnover (whichever is greater). It is understood that post-Brexit, the UK will continue to adopt a similar standard for data protection as set out in the GDPR and it is therefore important that businesses familiarise themselves with the significant changes to data protection law and start to prepare.
Winckworth Sherwood have developed a six step Action Plan to help organisations plan for the GDPR setting out the practical steps they need to take now and in the next few months.
At this workshop Toni Vitale, Head of Regulation, Data and Information, will describe the steps you can take now to ensure your organisation is ready for May 2018 including :
· How to carry out a data audit
· Can you rely on the consents you have?
· Can you continue to market to customers?
· How to prioritise your contract reviews
· Staff training and policies
· How to improve internal security to avoid breaches
· How to respond to a data breach
· How to deal with an ICO investigation
Relevant to all businesses, this talk will set out the key changes under the GDPR and the actions that your organisation should take to prepare.
