Opportunities for Our Members
With the eyes of the world on London there are many ways Bankside businesses can benefit from the activities of 2012.
The Games are estimated to boost UK’s GDP by at least £1.9 billion, and business hospitality will be a significant stimulant to this growth. 2012 will offer a unique opportunity to showcase the skills and expertise of British business, particularly from the SME community, to an international audience. The Games will provide a catalyst for potential partnering, inward investment and export opportunities off the back of the experience and successes of delivering the London 2012 programme. See below for ways to promote your business in the run up to, and during, the games. Read more ...

The 2012 Olympic Games are expected to place substantial pressure on London’s transport capacity. A typical August weekday in London contains 3.4 million rail and Tube users and 5.8 million bus users. In August 2012, the Games’s busiest days are expected to add an additional 855,000 users who are making event-related trips. Furthermore, 80% of spectators attending London-based events will travel by rail.
Given that 10.8 million tickets are on sale for the Games, it is anticipated that 20 million extra trips will be made within London during the Olympic period. A series of initiatives are required to ensure delivery of effective transport systems during the Games.

There will be so much happening in Bankside during the summer of 2012; the riverside location is perfect to watch the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Flotilla or to enjoy the river stage outside of Tate Modern. Shakespeare’s Globe will be hosting their International Shakespeare Festival with all 37 plays performed in 37 languages, whilst Tate Modern will have blockbuster shows from the likes of Damien Hurst. There will also be official NOCs in Bankside, with Switzerland House at Glaziers Hall and Southwark Cathedral opening their door to the public.

Better Bankside Community Space
The Community Space will be used as a “Community and Culture Hub” during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. A mix of ‘Volunteers rest and relaxation centre’, ‘Tourist information centre’, ‘Cultural space’ and ‘Community centre’, the space will provide a way for the millions of visitors, volunteers, and workers who will be in the Bankside area for the Games next year to have an accessible and easy Hub where they can go to rest-up, recharge, learn about Bankside, and get better connected to the creativity and cultural offerings in Bankside.
