The Better Bankside Theatre Award

Better Bankside have supported Southwark Playhouse's Shakespeare for Schools production for a number of years. Since 2007, The Better Bankside Award has offered a young theatre director the opportunity to realise their interpretation of the chosen play.
Last year, the winner was British Chinese director Jonathan Man who produced the A Midsummer Night's Dream set in Samurai Japan. The production was a great success both with local audiences and with the critics.
This year the Playhouse are producing Shakespeare's war epic, Henry V. Director Emily Lim is the successful candidate for 2010 and her interpretation will be set on a life-sized board game, where the audience decide the king's fate on the battlefield.
Around 1500 children from Southwark and Lambeth schools get free tickets and a free workshop led by the actors. The 90 minute, accessible production combines the original text with striking imagery and audience interaction. The show also plays to an adult audience in the evenings.
Henry V plays from 22nd February - 20th March at Southwark Playhouse. To find out more and to book your tickets, check www.southwarkplayhouse.co.uk or call the box office on 020 7407 0234.
