Walworth Academy Pupils Get a Taste of the Working World

On the 4th February, a group of engineering diploma students from Walworth Academy spent the day learning what it might be like to work in the construction industry, courtesy of Carillion.
The GCSE group spent the day at Carillion’s site office at Neo Bankside, a Native Land and Grosvenor development. They completed a number of interactive tasks, including building a crane from giant Meccano and an exercise that taught them about the different roles you find on a building site.
A number of Carillion and Native Land employees also spoke to the young people about what they did for a living, how they got to where they are in their career and what the benefits of a job in the construction industry are.
The young people obviously got a great deal from the day with lots of food for thought at this critical time in their education. Huge thanks to Carillion who put so much hard work into organising the day.
Better Bankside organises a number of work experience days each year – if your company would like to take part, please get in touch with Rachel Fitzgerald on rf@betterbankside.co.uk or 020 7928 3998

“We constantly struggle with the
impact of street drinking and rough
sleeping outside our office. It’s great
to know that the Better Bankside
rangers work with other agencies
to deal sympathetically with the
individuals concerned. That’s why we support Better Bankside.”
