The Tate Modern Project
The Tanks at Tate Modern NEW
Tate held a press conference on 23 April to announce the programme of The Tanks at Tate Modern. The Tanks are the first phase of the Tate Modern Project, and these new spaces for art will open to the public in summer 2012.
More details on artists that will be shown in The Tanks this summer can be found here.
Holland Street, Temporary closure of taxi drop off point UPDATED
In order to facilitate the completion of works to manholes we require a temporary closure of the taxi drop off point on Holland Street. Works will be complete and the hoarding replaced by the end of April 2012. The nearest taxi rank is at Southwark Street, in front of the Blue Fin Building.
Increased Vehicle Deliveries from March 2012 Onwards
Due to work starting on the superstructure (works above ground) we are anticipating a higher level of vehicle deliveries from March 2012. However, vehicle movements around the site boundary will continue to be managed in line with agreed traffic routes both avoiding disruption and coordinating with neighbouring construction works.
Disabled Parking, West Entrance
The disabled car parking facility continues to be located at the Staff Entrance on the East side of Tate Modern, off Park Street and four new disabled parking spaces are available by the West Entrance.
General update for May 2012 NEW
In advance of The Tanks opening in summer 2012, substructure and concrete works are complete. Architectural finishing works have begun in all areas. Mechanical and electrical services are now being installed across all areas. A focus continues to be installation of plant equipment in the major plant rooms. Alongside, works continue installing services in the service trench, which is located underneath the new public gallery spaces. These services will support the whole of the new building that sits above.
Major construction activity is now focused on the superstructure – works above ground. Two large cranes have been installed on site, to assist in superstructure works and the central core of the building has started to rise.
