Sumner Street, Temporary closure of taxi drop off point
In order to facilitate the completion of works to manholes we require a temporary closure of the taxi drop off point on Sumner Street for 4 weeks from 30 January 2012. The nearest taxi rank is at Southwark Street, in front of the Blue Fin Building.
Sumner Street and Hopton Street, Short closure for tower crane installation
Two large cranes will be delivered to site in late February. These cranes will support superstructure works – works above ground. Short road closures are anticipated on Hopton Street and Sumner Street. Confirmation of closures will be circulated to local residents and businesses and dates will be given here once they are known.
General update for February 2012
Oil Tank substructure works are nearly complete. Concrete works in the East Oil Tank, South Oil Tank and Transformer Galleries are complete. Architectural finishing works have begun in all areas, and an acoustic treatment has been applied to the ceiling of the South Oil Tank. Mechanical and electrical services are now being installed across all areas. A focus continues to be installation of plant equipment in the major plant rooms. This plant will support the Oil Tank opening in 2012. Alongside, works continue installing services in the service trench, which is located underneath the new public gallery spaces. These services will support the whole of the new building that sits above.
External works on the digging of trenches in the western and northern landscapes to link the boreholes to the new building commenced in mid January and will be complete by mid February. Access to the gallery will be maintained at all times and noise levels will be minimal. Vehicle movements around the site boundary continue to be managed in line with agreed traffic routes both avoiding disruption and coordinating with neighbouring construction works.
The disabled car parking facility continues to be located at the Staff Entrance on the East side of Tate Modern, off Park Street and four new disabled parking spaces are available by the West Entrance.

“As architects and placemakers we
obviously have a special interest in
the place where we work – both our
own building, its surrounding area
and initiatives like Bankside Urban
Forest. Better Bankside is the best
medium through which individual
voices may act in concert in support
of their community. That’s why we support Better Bankside.”
