2012 Games will Boost London and Britain's Tourism
Consider these facts:

  • Tourism benefits from the London 2012 Games estimated to be worth an additional £2.1bn, with visitors from emerging markets key to post-Games legacy.
  • The winning of the London 2012 Games is already changing perceptions of Britain in these markets
  • Of the post–game legacy of £1.27billion, 30% to be generated outside London
  • Tourism benefits will only come with investment in best practice marketing and infrastructure
New research published by Visit London and VisitBritain shows the London 2012 Games could bring a step change in London and Britain's success in attracting visitors from emerging tourist markets such as India, China and Russia.

The research, commissioned from Oxford Economics concludes that the total potential tourism benefits expected from the Games for London range from £1.3bn to £2.2bn and from £1.6bn to £2.9bn for the UK as a whole (including London), depending on the right strategies and investments.

Over half of the tourism gains are predicted to come during the post-Games period (2013-2017), generated largely by higher numbers of visitors from emerging markets, representing £1.27bn for the whole of the UK. Nearly one-third of this legacy gain is predicted to be outside of London.
