8th - 12th September - BB Boules Tournament |
Picture this... it's the second week of September, your holiday seems like an age ago and you wish you could find something to bring back that relaxed holiday feeling...
Better bankside has got just the solution... the first ever BB French Boules Tournament!
The Game
The current form of French Boules (or Pétanque) originated in 1907 in La Ciotat, in Provence, in southern France. The name comes from Les Ped Tanco in the Provençal dialect of the Occitan language, meaning "feet together." The concept of the game of French Boules is simple and similar to bowls, i.e. resting your boule closer to the jack than your opponent. However, instead of rolling wooden bowls over an immaculately maintained lawn, French Boules is played on an easily maintained area of fairly level 'stony' ground, with metal boule rolled or tossed to the jack.
BB Boules Tournament
Just like our annual BB Pancake Day Race, the boules tournament will be open to twelve teams from local businesses who will challenge eachother over a week of games from 5:30pm with the semi-finals and finals held on Friday 12th September. A full tournament schedule and rules will be posted as soon as we have all teams signed up.
To sign your team up:
- your business needs to be either a Better Bankside levy-paying partner or a Business Club member (we will be able to let you know whether you are or not)
- you must have a team of three people (we will provide the boules)
- email vf@betterbankside.co.uk by Friday 15th August with the following information: Name of team • Company name • Name of team leader • Contact details of team leader
