Bankside Travel Plan now online

Better Bankside is about to publish one of the first-ever area-specific travel plans in the UK.

The plan, a working version of which is now online, responds to the major survey of local employees undertaken by the Better Bankside Travel Planning Group in the summer of 2006.

The key targets of the Bankside Master Travel Plan are to increase by 50% by 2010:

  • the share of people who walk to work, amongst those who live within a 2 mile radius.
  • the share of people who cycle to work, amongst those who live within a 5 mile radius.
  • the number of work-related journeys made to locations within London on foot (2005: 20%)
  • the number of work related journey made to locations within London by bicycle (2005: 3%)
The plan proposes how both large and small businesses can set about producing a travel plan, and the practical measures they might take to make their employees' journeys healthier, more environmentally friendly and more cost effective. There is also information on the Better Bankside Travel Planning Group's projects.

As mentioned elsewhere in the May 2007 Ebrief, Better Bankside will be working with Transport for London over the next three years to encourage individual businesses to produce travel plans.
