Bankside Urban Forest Framework is Launched

Over 50 people attended the presentation of the Bankside Urban Forest framework at the Southwark Rose Hotel on Thursday 28th October - almost a year since the consultation was launched at the same venue.

Better Bankside working with Tate, London Borough of Southwark, Native Land, Land Securities, Cross River Partnership and the Architecture Foundation appointed consultants Witherford Watson Mann Architects to produce a strategy which would generate investment in the public realm through creative interventions.

Promoting significant environmental improvement in the dynamic setting of Bankside will involve the active participation and co-operation of a number of agencies, organisations, developers and the council. In this context it was invaluable to have the input of Michael Schwarze-Rodrian, Project Director at the Emscher Park in the Ruhr valley (www.wfgmetropoleruhr.de). Michael has worked on this project for 17 years and in this time has brought 20 local authorities together around a commitment to develop high quality environmental improvements with an emphasis on heritage and sustainability.

The framework was warmly received. With the talking over, its time to roll out the projects! The framework is available to download here (PDF 9.1MB).
