BB's Pancake Day Race - 5th February
Deadline for entry: NO MORE ENTRIES PERMITTED

Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day is a day when traditionally people prepare themselves for the disciplines of the Lenten fast! And so we at Better Bankside are thrilled to announce the return of the Charity Pancake Day Race on Tuesday 5th February at 12:00pm in Montague Square.

We invite members of the Bankside business community to show off their pancake-tossing skills at the Better Bankside's Pancake Day Race. Five heats plus a winners' race will be run along Montague Close, north of Southwark Cathedral. It’s a simple relay race with four members in each team, and anyone can join in (maximum of 25 teams).

Better Bankside suggests a £20 donation per team (although donations of any size are welcome), which will go to Paintings in Hospitals, a local charity (no.1065963) that lends original works of art to hospitals, hospices and other healthcare facilities throughout the UK. Its aim is to reduce sickness, stress and anxiety for those receiving treatment, visiting or working within the healthcare system. The artworks provided by Paintings in Hospitals are an effective and low cost way of enhancing the healthcare environment.

For spectators and participants Borough Market trader Baxter's and The Refectory at the Cathedral will be selling pancakes with a variety of toppings (cinnamon, lemon, nutella, fruit salad and banana). Pancakes will also be available as part of The Refectory's morning breakfast from 8:30am (morning breakfast is starting on Mon 14 Jan).

For a more substantial lunch, The Refectory's menu will include Crespelle alla Florentina served with broccoli & Chicken and Mushroom Pie served with spicy potato wedges. Nearby pub, The Mudlark, will be putting on a BBQ in their outdoor area.
