Bridge Human Resources, Det Norske Veritas, Southwark Cathedral, Fourth Day Public Relations, Forster Company, Zipcar, The Team and Mercure London City Bankside were among businesses and institutions entering teams in the second annual Better Bankside charity Pancake Race on Tuesday 5th February. Bankside car club Zipcar, who sponsored the event, also entered the race.
Four heats plus a final... the air was electric! The team from Medicare First – a social care employment agency based in the Hop Exchange on Southwark Street – won the competition. The Team branding consultants and the Mercure London City Bankside teams were runners-up.
Spectators and participants alike enjoyed pancakes by Borough Market trader Baxter's and The Refectory at the Cathedral to the sound of live jazz before and after the event.
The event was in aid of Paintings in Hospitals,a local charity (no.1065963) that lends original works of art to hospitals, hospices and other healthcare facilities throughout the UK and runsthe Menier Gallery on Southwark Street.
Says Stuart Davis: " I would like to say a special thank you to all those who participated.Paintings in Hospitals is delighted to have been selected as the charity of choice for this years race. Our charity’s aim, which has remained unchanged since its foundation in 1959, is to reduce sickness, anxiety and stress within
UK hospitals, hospices and other healthcare facilities, through the display of original works of art, for the benefit of patients, their visitors and the staff who care for them. The funds raised today will enable us to purchase a new artwork for our Children’s Collection. This collection, the only one of its type in the UK, has been developed to appeal to younger members of the community - who sadly often find the trip to hospital the most stressful."
