Sixteen enthusiastic individuals from Bankside businesses transformed a local garden on the last Friday in March. The party included employees from Waterman Group, Mercure Bankside and IPC Media.

They were contributing to the regeneration of a well-known open space, adjoining Christ Church on Blackfriars Road. The volunteers dug a new path, dug over a long border, and planted a hedge, trees and shrubs.

The challenge was organised by one of Better Bankside's seven Community Partners - Bankside Open Spaces Trust, a small charity that has had a huge impact on the area's few, but crucial, parks and green spaces.

Despite a major rainstorm in the late morning, the group soldiered on, accomplishing virtually all the task. Project manager Heather Carter of BOST pronounced herself more than satisfied: 'They were a tremendous group, who really gave the challenge everything. They even offered to come back one evening to finish. We are sincerely grateful to them for working so hard in very challenging conditions.'
