Gelderland welcomes BB businesses |
|
Better Bankside’s study visit to the Netherlands at the end of September proved a great success, with a group of businesses and other stakeholders exposed to some innovative thinking from their Dutch counterparts.
Representatives from IPC Media, Waterman Group, Council for Protection of Rural England, Better Bankside and Tate, were among those visiting Ede and Arnhem in the Netherlands as guests of the Province of Gelderland – also partners in the EU-funded ‘Optimum 2’ initiative.
Travelling by Eurostar in the interests of the environment (and paying for their own tickets), group members:
-
Spent half a day on bikes, experiencing the superior cycling facilites in Holland
-
Visited several businesses in the booming Ede Business Park, viewing the collective bus(‘Djopper’) service, among other things
-
Learned more about the redevelopment of Arnhem Station – a useful parallel to the forthcoming redevelopment of London Bridge Station
The group also spent considerable time in conversation with Dutch transport executives and consultants. Two interesting ideas were forthcoming which were shared with participants at the Travel Planning Breakfast on 9th November:
- For a driverless 'people mover' which might navigate along Southwark street and up to Borough tube, returning via Union Street
- For a 'velo taxi' service plying between Southwark tube and Tate Modern
A report on the visit will be available soon. |
