Staff of Lloyds TSB in Park Street have won an Environmental Business Gold Award.

Facilities manager Bill Doherty and administrator Jim Beaver were at the Borough & Bankside Community Council to receive the award in front of an audience of councillors and residents.

The presentation was made by Southwark Council's Environmental Health and Trading Standards Manager Tim England.

The winning Lloyds TSB office, with 1,200 employees, occupies Red Lion Court next to The Anchor Bankside. Measures taken at Red Lion Court to achieve the award include the recycling of paper and plastic cups; donating stamps, toner cartridges and mobile phones to charities for recycling and the sending of unwanted furniture to schools in Africa.

A newsletter keeps staff informed of progress and encourages them to bring items from home to be recycled.

The Environmental Business Awards is an accreditation scheme launched by Southwark Council  in 2004 with the aim of rewarding businesses acting in an environmentally responsible manner. There are four categories but Lloyds TSB is one of only thirteen Southwark businesses that have achieved Gold status.
