Mobile information points trialled in Bankside over Easter
Better Bankside and South Bank Employers’ Group were involved in a trial of mobile information provision funded by the London Development Agency. Between the dates 23-26 March 2008 a trial Mobile Information Kiosk, manned by two members of staff, was placed at a number of 'honeypot' locations including on the riverside in front of Tate Modern.

The aim of the trial was to gain an insight into the role that mobile visitor information could play within London’s overall provision and is part of the London Development's Agency Visitor Information Provision Framework.

Despite the dereadful weather over Easter, the trial provided a useful insight into the role that mobile visitor information could play, and within this:
  • give understanding of the potential popularity and usefulness of such service
  • give insight into future provisions/requirements of future units.
In Brief
  • Users of the information kiosk gave very positive feedback of the service they received, noting it to be very helpful and being satisfied with the service.
  • The staff manning the kiosk were friendly and helpful which contributes heavily to the users' experience.
  • The majority of respondents used the Kiosk for information, usually directions or transport information.  However, foreign visitors tended to require advice on where to go and what to do as well.
  • Respondents felt that the presence of the Kiosk is of help and is of benefit to the location.
  • The option to purchase tickets for attractions or transport at the Kiosk would also be of benefit.
The Way Forward

The London Development Agency, South Bank Marketing Group and Better Bankside are looking into a proposal to run a weekend mobile information service in Bankside and South Bank during the summer months. Watch this space!
