New Managing Director at Vinopolis

Better Bankside announces that Malcolm Ball, Managing Director of Vinopolis and Better Bankside Board member, is planning to leave Vinopolis at the end of October 2007.  He will be taking on consultancy work in the leisure and hospitality industry.

Malcolm has successfully led the management team at Vinopolis for the past four years, achieving a group turnover of nearly £8.5 million for the year ended 31 July 2007, an increase of 16% compared with the previous year.  Together with its four restaurants and bars, Vinopolis is key to the gastronomic regeneration of London Bankside and the Borough Market.

Malcolm joined the Better Bankside board at an early date and contributed to the development of the early thinking. He also generously hosted board meetings and other events at Vinopolis on behalf of Better Bankside. In addition, he chaired the Area Promotion Group for a period in which it substantially changed its focus and upped its performance. His knowledge of the area and good humour will be missed.

In his place, Rupert Ellwood has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Vinopolis with effect from 25 October 2007.  Rupert is currently Head of Events and Catering at The Natural History Museum, where he has successfully changed the business attracting a wider variety of high profile events like the first rock concert ever held in Central Hall with the Strokes. He has also successfully developed the Public catering offer by focusing on understanding the needs of the visitors.  Prior to this, he was responsible for the start up of the new in-house catering events team at the MCC, and previously the catering at the House of Lords.
