Restaurants, pubs & cafes – take part in StreetSmart

This year, as part of its Christmas appeal, Better Bankside is supporting StreetSmart.

StreetSmart is an innovative and simple way in which restaurants can raise money for charities working with people who are homeless. StreetSmart operates in November and December. Restaurants which sign up to Streetsmart give customers the opportunity to pay an additional £1 on the table bill.

At the end of each month, the restaurant passes on the total money raised to StreetSmart. StreetSmart then uses all of those pounds to support reputable charities in the areas where the money was raised. The scheme is promoted to customers through a table card which Streetsmart supply or by adding a brief note to the bill or menu.

Any local funds will go directly to Broadway. Broadway is a local homelessness charity and has received grants from StreetSmart since 2002. They have recently written to a number of local restaurants encouraging them to sign up for this scheme. Money raised can help Broadway to achieve the following:

£300 (or one week during the StreetSmart scheme for a restaurant averaging 43 tables per day) provides a healthy meal for 120 homeless people for one day.

£2,200 (or the campaign total for a restaurant averaging 37 tables a day) enables 24 homeless people to develop the skills they need to maintain a tenancy and find a job
