Donovan Data Systems have recently moved into the Blue Fin Building. Better Bankside caught up with Henry Lawson, President DDS Worldwide and Chief Operating Officer for Europe.
What services does Donovan Data Systems provide?
We operate in the marketing communications industry, supplying systems and services to well-known companies like GroupM, Universal McCann and Wieden & Kennedy. Our two flagship brands, BrandOcean and MediaExplorer, help our clients improve efficiency - from the creative brief right the way through the process. Our applications cover the whole range of media from print to internet. So whether you're a creative company or media agency, filling in an expense report or buying internet space, DDS helps ensure processes are under control so clients can operate with maximum efficiency.
Why did you choose Bankside for the location of your new offices?
We were attracted to Bankside as a lively and up and coming area with a growing number of creative and media-related businesses. Its transport links are a big plus for us now our clients have spread out around London and are no longer concentrated in W1 in the way they were when DDS started out. The Blue Fin Building is exceptional, and getting our whole team of almost 220 onto a single 35,000-foot floor has enabled us to solve communication issues within days of moving in which would have taken months to put right in another building.
Are there any challenges linked to your move to Bankside?
Moving the DDS data centre, one of the biggest in Europe, was always going to be a challenge, but I'm glad to say the months and months of planning and preparation paid off and everything went well. When we decided to move, we also decided to focus on the environmental impact of our business. We already had a green procurement policy, but this has been an opportunity to look at the materials used in the fit out of the office, at our heating, lighting and recycling, even our transport policy. The DDS electric cars are a special favourite of mine!
In what way do you see Better Bankside able to support you in your business activities?
We're always interested in dialogue. As one of Better Bankside's newest members, we look forward to forging links and making a positive contribution to the area.
