Travel Planning Group celebrates first anniversary |
A breakfast event on 9 th November at Jerwood Space marked one year from the original launch of Better Bankside's Travel Planning Group at the same venue, and offered an opportunity to hear about the group's achievements and its plans for the future. It coincided with the news from Transport for London that it would fund the Bankside-wide Travel Plan to the tune of £15,000.
Chaired by Lisa Rajan, recently appointed executive member for Environment for Southwark Council, the event kicked off with a presentation by Better Bankside Chief Executive Peter Williams on ‘The Bankside Urban Park and other Environmental Improvement Projects’.
The event concluded with small group discussion on project ideas for next year, with participants encouraged to vote on their favourites. The most popular ideas were:
- Traffic Free Borough Market and Improved Borough High Street - 18 votes
- Include River Services as part of Oyster (Season Ticket & ‘Pay as you Go’) – 8 votes
- More secure cycle parking on streets – 14 votes
- Using Better Bankside Rangers as mobile information posts and more rangers, especially at weekends – 10 votes
- Shuttle Bus - 9 votes
The Better Bankside Travel Planning Group is composed of local employers working together to play an active role in transport and planning decisions in their area, with the aim of improving the environment and increasing travel options for their employees. It is managed by Better Bankside – the borough’s first Business Improvement District (BID) – but welcomes the involvement of employers elsewhere in north Southwark. |
