London Borough of Southwark last night won the award for 'Innovation in Promoting Travel Plans to Business' at the 2007 Sustainable Transport Awards at Madame Tussauds on 28th June. The award was for the Council's work with Better Bankside and its Travel Planning Group.
Hosted by TfL and organised by Steer Davies Gleave, the event was attended by over 280 practitioners, including politicians, London boroughs, campaign groups and schools. Speakers included TfL`s Commissioner, Peter Hendy and Richard Bacon, presenter of Radio 5 Live.
The evening recognised the outstanding achievements of the people and initiatives that support travel behaviour change and promote sustainable, healthier ways of traveling in London.
SDG Director, Fred Beltrandi, commented on the awards, 'despite the challenges involved with encouraging people to change their attitudes and behaviour when it comes to travel, the standard of work and results achieved in the field has risen.
'The dedicated work we are celebrating tonight plays an essential role in working towards a less congested and polluted environment, safer roads and healthier living.'
