NEO Bankside

NEO Bankside, the new residential development currently being built in Hopton Street, is making an imaginative and appealing contribution to this summer’s London Festival of Architecture (www.lfa2010.org). Native Land and Grosvenor, who, together, are building the four pavilions designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, wanted to play a significant role in the capital’s celebration of architecture.
So, sculptor Brendan Jamison has been commissioned to make sculptures of both Tate Modern and the tallest of the NEO Bankside pavilions entirely out of sugar cubes!! The sugar sculptures have been made to a scale of 100:1, with amazing detail carved out of the crystals. They will be on display in NEO Bankside’s pavilion in Hopton Street (just opposite the Turbine entrance of Tate Modern) and will be available for the public to view from 1st – 4th July.
On Saturday 3rd July, Brendan will be holding sugar cube workshops for children. Here’s a chance to learn how to build a small house, a tiny castle, or a folly entirely out of sugar cubes. These workshops will take place between 10am – 4pm at the Pavilion. To arrange a place for your children to take part it’s best to pre-book. Just email: neobankside@camronpr.com and the team will make sure you have a place.
Also, on Saturday 3rd July, NEO Bankside will be offering tours of the site. Here’s a chance to put on the hard hat and tough boots and be guided around the new buildings and see the amazing view over the city from the top floors. To book a place just email: neobankside@camronpr.com to book a place or phone Ros, Neil or Hannah at Camron PR on 020 7420 1700.
