Redcross Way Improvements - Phase 1 Complete

Simon Hughes MP and David Rowe from Transport for London officially opened the first phase of improvements to Redcross Way on 21st May. Children from schools helped to hold the garland before joining in the Maypole dancing in Red Cross Garden.
The improvements to Redcross Way were the first of a number of projects identified in the Bankside Urban Forest study and funded through Transport for London and section 106 contributions from developers. The improvements are one of Transport for London’s Key Walking Routes in London, Redcross Way links Borough tube station with Borough Market and is a relatively quiet street for pedestrians and cyclists.
Further funding has recently been secured from both Southwark Council's Cleaner Greener Safer scheme and the London Development Agency through Bankside Urban Forest to implement phase 2 to ensure that the whole of the street from Union Street to Marshalsea Road is upgraded. This is part of a wider package of projects to improve the streets across Bankside, connecting key open spaces, parades of shops and other local amenities through Bankside Urban Forest.
