The purpose of Scouting is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. The Scout Method provides an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training, based on the Scout Promise and Law, which is guided by adult leadership.
Across Albany District there are 700 members aged 6-25 and 150 adult volunteers. The District has management oversight of the 18 independent Scout Groups in the Southwark area, and are responsible for ensuring they carry out their responsibilities as laid down by The Scout Association.
They organise District wide activities for all six sections of the movement on a regular basis and try to provide active and challenging activities for everyone – from the newest Beaver Scout aged 6, to the oldest adult helper aged 65+.
About the Opportunity: One of the Scout Association's assets is an HQ building. This is a 19th century building which has been modified to accommodate the activities of the District. This has basically just been an adaptation of the existing space. What they are now trying to do is redevelop the site with a completely new, purpose built building with flats above. They need a professional volunteer to help them project manage the rebuilding project in terms of providing feasibility advice, the pitfalls that there might be, and the steps they need to take to make the process work smoothly and legally. The could also include helping us choose the "professional" surveyor, architect, etc, as well as acting us the liaison point for discussions with Southwark Council and the Scout Association Trust Corporation.
Time commitment: Flexible/ad hoc as the scheme progresses
Location: Flexible
