Borough Music School - Business Mentor |
 Borough Music School exists to teach children of mainly primary age both instrumental music and general musicianship, at a price affordable by a working family. It was started in 1995, when there was almost no instrumental provision in state primary schools, and although much has improved, there is still a huge demand for such tuition. There is a termly concert, in which all the groups and many individual soloists play, and the school has taken part in 2 joint productions with Southwark Playhouse.
The school operates in hired premises at weekends, and engages peripatetic music staff for teaching. The Director is a volunteer and there are two assistant paid admin staff for Saturday sessions.
About the Opportunity: The Director of BMS would like a business mentor to assist her in raising and maintaining standards in the project. There will be opportunities to offer advice on funding, negotiating a more stable structure and staff development.
