Business Club
Pledge: We will create opportunities for local businesses to meet, learn from and trade with each other.

The Business Club is open to employees of all levy-paying businesses, as well as to those that wish to subscribe.

The Club offered a rich mix of events in 2006, including seminars led by the Chair and Chief Executive of Borough Market, by London Marathon CEO Nick Bitel, and by leading women businesspeople as part of the ‘Bankside Women in Business’ event. There was a summer party, a Christmas lunch and carol service, and the annual ‘Budget Briefing’ event by FT journalist Ed Crooks which took place in Roast Restaurant.

In 2006 the Club re-launched the Better Bankside website, with a number of new elements designed to increase and enhance trading opportunities for members, including an online business directory, an online business forum, facilitated by the London SE1 community website and the interactive travel map and other travel tools.

In 2007 the Club intends to produce a series of events aimed at the specific business needs of its members – covering, for example, disaster recovery, tax and finance issues, the use of new technology and the internet.

It will also seek further to enhance the website as a trading tool for local businesses, increasing the quality and quantity of data on display.

The Club is also testing the feasibility of a possible ‘meshed’ wireless internet zone to operate throughout the area.

All participants in the 'Bankside Women in Business' event described it as 'excellent' or 'very good'.
