How to use the map

		On the map you can click on the icons on the left hand side to see information about walking, car and motorbike parking, cycling, bus routes and local shops and services. More information on each mode will appear in the box below the tabs when you click on them.
		If you want to remove the symbols from the map select 'off' at the bottom of the box where it says 'show on map'.
		If you place your map over the symbols on the map (e.g. bus stops, cafes) information on the facility will be displayed in a hover box. If you want to hold this information click on the symbol and the same information will be displayed in the 'details' panel to the left.
		To search for a named company in Bankside enter their name in the search panel at the top of the page. You can then save the map centred on this location in your favourites or email the link to yourself.

On the top left of the map are the navigation tools

		Zoom in - click on this symbol to zoom in
		Zoom out - click on this symbol to zoom out
		Selection tool - click on this symbol and a hand symbol appears. You can then hold this hand down on the map and draw a rectangle in which you are interested. When you release the mouse the map will zoom in on this area.
		Measuring tool - click on this symbol and then click and hold on a point of interest, if you drag the mouse away a circle will appear giving the distance and approximate walking time.
		Pan/move around map - by clicking and holding on any of the arrows the map will move in the relevant direction. You can also move around the map by clicking, holding and moving your mouse on the map directly.
		Refresh click here to return the page to its original settings.

What the map is for

The map has been developed primarily for use by businesses and their employees located within the Bankside Business Improvement District and therefore the detailed information only covers this area (the boundary is marked as a dotted line on the map). The aim is to show on one map information on all modes of transport in the Bankside area as well as some shops and services which people working in Bankside may use in their lunch breaks. The map is not intended to be exhaustive about the services available in London and is designed to be used in conjunction with existing transport and services information already available. Why these pages were developed

These pages of the Better Bankside website developed from a request from the Better Bankside Local Travel Plan Group for more travel information tailored for the Bankside area. The Better Bankside Local Travel Plan Group has been working with Southwark Council as part of the Optimum2 project on a range of innovative travel planning tools and the interactive map and associated pages have been developed as one of these tools.

Optimum2 is a project funded by the European Regional Development Fund Interreg IIIB programme for North West Europe, which aims to provide an effective approach for using travel planning to tackle the accessibility and mobility problems caused by congestion in urban areas. As a partner in the Optimum2 project Southwark Council is leading a pilot project to research and develop means of working with businesses to solve these problems, focusing on establishing local travel plan groups and developing travel planning tools such as bike pools. The Southwark pilot project team also includes SEA/Renue, Loughborough University and the University of Westminster. As well as funding from the Optimum2 project, additional funding has come from Southwark Council as part of their good going travel awareness programme with Better Bankside funding the ongoing maintenance of the website.
