Trees
Better Bankside is passionate about improving the quality of the local environment for local business employees, residents and visitors to the area.
Trees are especially important in built up areas like Bankside. Extra tree coverage improves local environmental quality by reducing street temperatures in summer, reducing storm water run-off and flooding. They also help reduce noise levels along busy transport corridors and reduce the amount of man-made particulates in the air.
Better Bankside works closely with the London Borough of Southwark and other agencies to ensure that opportunities for planting trees in Bankside are maximised. Recent schemes include the tree planting in Sumner Buildings garden on Great Guildford Street. Better Bankside is also part of a consortium submitting a funding bid to the Mayor of London's Street Tree Programme. So watch this space for information of future tree planting activities across the area.

“Many people are involved
in the design and delivery
of the Better Bankside
programme. A large number of you
already play a part of the
governance structure, on
the groups that manage the
different themes, and on
the board. Committed
to a Better Bankside, we rely
on your feedback to direct
our efforts. So get involved.”
