Travel Planning

The Travel Planning theme group is new but has proved popular with businesses. The travel programme continues to prosper and to attract London-wide and national attention. It receives support from other partners, notably Southwark Council, the European Union (through the OPTIMUM2 project) and Transport for London.
The programme promoted:
- with other partners, installing some 50 new cycle stands in public areas
- Bikefest, a programme of events offering local employees bike servicing, a folding bike roadshow, advice on bicycle security and guided bike rides. Nearly 90 bikes were serviced
- a programme of guided walks and a new link from the online interactive map and travel tools on the Better Bankside website to the Walk2Go website, which details 50 walking routes in the Bankside area
- promoting travel planning to member businesses, including the Bankside launch of Transport for Londons Enterprise scheme for small and medium-sized enterprises
- support for the idea of closing Stoney Street to traffic when Borough Market is operating.
In 2007 Southwark Council won a Transport for London Sustainable Transport award for its work with the Better Bankside Travel Planning Group.
