Environmental Improvements
Pledge: We will make the area's railway arches and bridges cleaner and friendlier.
'blue wash' over the brickwork, will highlight the route down to Clink Street and the riverside, and create an attractive illuminated space outside the adjoining premises.
Together with our local authority, business and Tate Modern partners, Better Bankside launched
the Bankside Urban Forest framework and have put out a design brief for the first Bankside Urban Forest project at the junction of Great Guildford Street and Sumner Street. The aim of the Bankside Urban Forest framework is to provide a co-ordinated approach for future investment in
the public realm throughout the BID.
Better Bankside have consulted on the proposed temporary closure of Stoney Street as a means
of exploring ways of better managing the public realm in this area. We now have a completed Waste Audit & Waste Strategy Report relating to issues affecting the streets around Borough Market. Better Bankside are now actively seeking partners for the development and management of the market's proposed waste management and recycling facility.
Better Bankside aim to develop the first BUF project and bring about improvements to the streetscape around the junction of Great Guildford Street and Sumner Street, creating new green spaces for seating together with an improved environment for walking and a greater security for local residents.Better Bankside aim to establish a fully operational Waste Management & Recycling Facility at
Borough Market.
The Group will contribute to the upgrading of the public realm required as a result of the Thameslink 2000 changes, as well as to improvements to the streets around Borough Market necessitated by the increasing numbers of visitors, particularly on trading days.
