Two packed houses launch Better Bankside's new Business Club

Roast & Borough Market events prove popular.

On 23rd March, Ed Crooks å UK News Editor for the FT å addressed the annual Better Bankside Budget Breakfast. More than 50 local businesspeople heard the implications for them of the Chancellor's latest Budget speech. In his customary amusing and perceptive style, Ed described the Budget as a 'Bach fugue' rather than a 'Beethoven overture' å 'a Budget for connoisseurs'!

The venue was the fabulous space that is Roast Restaurant. Some participants recalled walking around the recently completed shell of the building at a Bankside Traders Association event nearly two years before. This time participants had the opportunity to sample the restaurant's excellent breakfast fare.

The second event took place a week later in the currently disused building at 1 Cathedral Street, and was attended by around 70 businesspeople. Simone Crofton and George Nicholson, Chief Executive and Chair respectively of Borough Market, described their exciting vision for the transformation of the building into the Market's new Food School. They also covered the wider future of the Market, mentioning the forthcoming 250th anniversary, the refurbishment of the wholesale market, and the new partnership with other leading European markets.

Afterwards participants enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy some networking time over wines from Bedales and food by Brindisa.

Membership of the Business Club costs £100pa or £50pa if you have three or fewer staff. Please contact Giles Semper on 020 7928 3998, gs@betterbankside.co.uk if you would like to join.
