High-level graffiti removed from Floral Hall
Better Bankside uses cherry picker For several weeks the appearance of Borough Market's magnificent new Floral Hall has been spoiled by a large amount of high-level graffiti. Police and Southwark Council have pronounced themselves 'amazed' that one or more individuals risked crossing a glass roof to leave their 'tags'. Better Bankside reported the incident to the Council and asked their staff to attend. The Council declined to carry out this work as it was not on public property. Better Bankside turned the problem over to its jet washing contractor Intex who, on 13th April, removed all the graffiti.
Theyalso removed further high-level graffiti from Thames House in Park Street. Graffiti alongside the Ansbacher building on Montague Close has proved more resistant, but is likely finally to be removed in the next few days. The remaining graffiti to the buildings on Stoney Street and Bedale Street will be removed over the next few weeks. Network Rail has been approached about removal of graffiti from the bridges but has declined the offer from Better Bankside preferring to rely on the trackside CCTV cameras to catch the perpetrators. Better Bankside has a continuing programme for tackling graffiti within the BID area and is employing a two-pronged approach in partnership with the Council. In the first instance all graffiti will be reported by its Rangers to the Council for their attention. Better Bankside will carry out the works if the Council is unable å for technical or other reasons å to do so within an acceptable time frame. Better Bankside's contractor INTEX is also offering to carry out building cleaning at favourable rates for businesses and organisations within the BID area. Works were recently completed at the offices of The Team on Southwark Street. If you are interested contact John Booth at INTEX on 01255 222252 or e-mail johnbooth@intexcleaning.co.uk. Responsible operationsAlong with Better Bankside's 'greening' contractor, CJS Plants, INTEX was granted a licence in March by Thames Water to draw water from hydrants for a period of a year. INTEX will however be taking steps to seal hydrant connections during use to reduce run off.
