Roast gets 'greened'

Better Bankside has installed a new planting scheme outside Roast Restaurant in Borough Market.

More schemes are due to follow at Floral Hall, 1 Cathedral Street and hanging baskets around the Cathedral, Cathedral Street, Shakespeare's Globe and New Globe Walk. Better Bankside's 'Green Grants' scheme funds businesses' planting schemes å both installation and maintenance å to a maximum of 50% of the cost. Contact Chris Bateman on 020 7928 3998 or cb@betterbankside.co.uk for more details.

In common with its jet washing contractor, INTEX, Better Bankside's planting contractor CJS Plants was granted a licence in March by Thames Water to draw water from hydrants for a year. CJS will be using water storing polymers, wetting agents and polythene liners to retain as much water as possible.
