London Architecture Biennale 2006 Comes to Southwark

Does your business want to take part?

Following the overwhelming response to the first-ever London Architecture Biennale (LAB) in 2004, the celebration returns in June 2006, on a vastly increased scale. With Southwark Council as a confirmed partner, LAB covers a wider geographical area, to highlight the borough’s exciting regeneration programme and range of projects with high quality architecture.

The Biennale will involve prestigious names and organisations as well as linking with national events including Architecture Week, Cycle Week and Sustainability Week.

The London Architecture Biennale is a 10 day programme of events running from 16th - 25th June 2006 that aims to make architecture and the built environment accessible to all. Events in Southwark include tours, talks, debates, exhibitions, parties, and competitions that are open to the general public as well as architecture professionals.

In 2004, the Biennale saw more than 25,000 people attend the festival, and with a more ambitious events list planned, this year aims to attract more than 125,000 attendees. The Biennale launch event on Saturday 17th June will start at Borough Market where 60 sheep will be released for a sheep drive and led by key figures, including the Bishop of Southwark, along Bank Side, over the Millennium Bridge and ending at Smithfield Market for a recreation of the historic Bartholomew’s Fair.

Local businesses in the area are invited to demonstrate their support to Southwark by involving their companies in the Biennale. This may be done in any way that is felt appropriate. Businesses may wish to provide special offers to customers that are attending Biennale events, organise a special menu or drinks for the week, or even sponsor an event.
