Be a Clever Commuter – 15th September
Volunteers needed: race from Peckham to Potters Field - by whatever means… Do you know the secret to avoiding the morning rush? Are you able to get to work without having been trapped by congestion, stuck in a queue or having read the paper from cover to cover (twice) because it takes so long? Are you able to think outside the transport box? Prove yourself a Clever Commuter by taking part in the Southwark Clever Commuter Race on Thursday 15th September, supported by Better Bankside. The Race begins at 8.15am at Peckham Pulse and finishes at Potters Field - next to City Hall at Tower Bridge - with each entrant timed from start to finish. You can travel by any method: car, bus, train, tube, bike, scooter… or your own personal secret transport weapon! The route is only 5 km, so a perfect cycling, skating or walking distance. All those that take part will get a free breakfast after passing the finishing line and will be entered into a prize draw for a bike courtesy of On Your Bike, London Bridge. This is a great chance for people to have fun and try out a different way of getting to work, or you could get a team together. Alternatively, Better Bankside is participating in a week long challenge to all commuters. We're asking participants to tell us how long it takes to travel to work each day, and at the end of the week we will average out the time per mile for different methods. We will then publicise the results. To enter either event simply fill in this form and return to Carole Crankshaw, Chiltern House, Portland Street, SE17 2ES, or email carole.crankshaw@southwark.gov.uk. All entrants will receive a race pack with all the details they need to take part. Please return forms by 2nd September (if that proves difficult, then call us to discuss your plans and arrange a later date).
