Get your Green Grant here! Green Grants can cover 50% of the cost of containerised planting and maintenance. If you've ever thought of planting around your building, or overlooking public space, you might be eligible for a Green Grant. These can cover up to 50% of the cost of planting and maintenance, with a historic top limit of £2,500. Better Bankside can also arrange the planting and maintenance on your behalf, via its contractor Greenscene. Green Grants have been one of the most successful parts of the Business Improvement District (BID) programme, and have been emulated in other BIDs. More than forty have been awarded to date. Applications can be made on the relevant form, which can be downloaded from the Better Bankside website. A Green Grant-funded scheme at BTI UK's building at 24 Southwark Bridge Road was recently a winner in the 'Southwark in Bloom' competition. BTI UK's Business Service Support Manager Joy Brown, who accepted the award from Southwark's Deputy Mayor Lorraine Lauder (award ceremony pictured above!), explained: "Earlier this year we started work tidying and landscaping the area around our office in Southwark Bridge Road with the aim of developing a bright and welcoming office entrance for our staff and visitors." "We were approached by Better Bankside who commended our efforts and explained that we could be eligible for a grant to help us continue our scheme. This grant, when combined with BTI UK's own investment, enabled us to finish the landscaping and we are now introducing seasonal planting to ensure that our office has an attractive appearance year round." She continued: "It was a huge boost when we were asked if we might consider being entered for the Greening Southwark Awards, and absolutely fantastic to then receive an award. It makes all the hard work worthwhile and I know that I can speak for all our staff when I say how proud we are of our improved office!" Green Grant-funded schemes have also resulted in new planting around the Golden Hinde, and the refurbishment of hanging baskets in Park Street.
